Biography

Tobiah joined Sanballat in opposing Nehemiah from the moment the rebuilding mission began. He mocked the wall as too weak to stand, exchanged intimidating letters with Judean nobles, and later occupied a chamber in the temple precincts through his alliance with Eliashib.

Nehemiah’s final reforms include throwing Tobiah’s household goods out of the temple chamber, a vivid sign that covenant renewal required removing compromised loyalties from the house of God.
