Biblical Significance
Egypt is the land where Israel was enslaved and from which God delivered them through the Exodus. It becomes one of the Bible’s strongest historical memories of bondage, oppression, false security, and the saving power of God. At the same time, Egypt also appears as a temporary refuge in the stories of Joseph and the child Jesus.
