Marriage Supper of the Lamb
Overview
- Testament: New
- Book: Revelation
- Chapters: Revelation 19:1-10
- Summary: A great multitude in heaven thunders forth four Hallelujahs, praising God for judging the great harlot and avenging the blood of his servants; the twenty-four elders and four living creatures worship before the throne; the angel announces the marriage of the Lamb and that his wife has made herself ready, clothed in fine linen, clean and white.
Significance
The Marriage Supper of the Lamb is the consummation of the covenant between Christ and his redeemed people, the fulfillment of every bridal image woven through Scripture from Eden onward. The fourfold “Alleluia” — the only occurrence of this word in the New Testament — marks the moment as the great doxological climax of redemptive history. The beatitude pronounced on those called to the supper confirms that the guest list is written by grace in the book of life.
