Rich and Poor

Overview

Rich and poor is a major biblical theme tracing God’s concern for the vulnerable, his warning to the powerful, and the reversal of status in the kingdom.

In James, wealth becomes a test of community faithfulness. The poor are not to be dishonored, the rich are not to be flattered, and those who oppress laborers are warned that the Lord hears the cries of the defrauded.
