Biography
Hur is one of the most underappreciated figures in the Bible. During the battle with Amalek at Rephidim, Hur (along with Aaron) supported Moses’ arms as he held the staff of God. Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed; whenever he let it down, Amalek prevailed. Hur built a stone for Moses to sit on, and held up his hands until sunset, ensuring Israel’s victory (Exodus 17:8–13). He is also mentioned as one of the seventy elders who saw God in the tabernacle (Exodus 24:1). Hur represents the vital role of faithful supporters behind every leader.
