Biography

Eve was the first woman, created by God from a rib taken from Adam while he slept (Genesis 2:21-22). God brought her to Adam, who called her “Woman” because she was taken out of Man. Her name “Eve” (Hebrew: Chavah, meaning “living” or “life”) was given after the Fall, meaning “mother of all living.”

She was tempted by the serpent in the Garden of Eden and ate the forbidden fruit, then gave some to Adam. Despite the judgment that followed, God promised a Redeemer who would bruise the serpent’s head — the first gospel promise (proto-evangelium, Genesis 3:15).
