Carbon-credit projects with verified soil end-use

Exomad Green — Concepción / Riberalta, Bolivia (Puro.earth)

  • Registry: Puro facility page states CORC 100+ durability; biochar from sawmill hardwood residues pyrolyzed ~600 °C; biochar donated to local Indigenous communities for agricultural soil enhancement (Puro — Exomad Green, Concepción).
  • Issuance (facility table on Puro page): 2023 21,252; 2024 58,344; 2025 102,458; 2026 91,457 CORCs (as published on page at fetch time).
  • Ag guidance: mix with inoculant; site-specific rates; planting-row / volume-% examples (Exomad biochar).
  • Field study (company report with CIAT; press 2025-07-04): Santa Cruz trials, 4 t ha⁻¹ once — corn +15% (up to +32% with fertilizer + microbes); beans +13% (up to +25%) (PDF; Bioenergy International). Yield ANOVA not significant and no fertilizer-only control — see Exomad Green Corn and Bean Field Study.
  • MRV partner case study: Carbonfuture — Exomad.

Verification note: Soil end-use is explicit on Puro and company pages (donation / farm application)—not a non-soil-only sink.

Charm Range & Plains Biochar — USA (Isometric)

  • Registry project: Charm co-produces bio-oil and biochar (Fort Lupton, CO) from wildfire-mitigation woody biomass; “We transport biochar via truck to various sites where it is sequestered via land application” (Isometric project).
  • Crediting period 01 Mar 2024 – 01 Mar 2029; issued volume shown on registry page; storage-site locations reported as secured upon offtake execution.
  • Company narrative: partners with farmers for water-stressed soils / productivity co-benefits; first Isometric CCP-labeled biochar credits (Charm blog).

Verra Project 4679 — “Reignite,” Odisha, India (VM0044)

Commercial farms / vineyards (US)

Oasis Vineyard Trial — Monterey County, California

  • Partners: Sonoma Ecology Center, UC Riverside, Monterey Pacific Inc., Pacific Biochar; funded via California Department of Water Resources.
  • Pre-plant (2016–2017): biochar 10 t/ac, compost 15 t/ac, combo, vs control on sandy low-OM soils; incorporation ~30” in vine row.
  • Five harvests: combo +36%, biochar +25%, compost +29% average yield vs control; positive ROI by second harvest; incremental revenue by fifth harvest **12,569 / 1,500/ton grapes; amendment costs (2016 delivered) biochar 40/ton wet.

Dominus Estate — Napa Valley, California

Sonoma Ecology Center × Napa Recycling — American Canyon pyrolysis (startup 2025)

Earth Foundries × Napa Recycling — composting with biochar

  • 2023 project report: 10% (by volume) biochar addition to green/food-waste composting reduced VOCs 33%, accelerated curing, affected finished compost nutrient/salinity metrics (PDF · reports Napa CASP co-composting).

Wakefield BioChar — NRCS CPS 336 channel & paper-mill partnership

How to read these cases

  1. Credit project ≠ agronomic trial. Exomad/Charm/Verra prove soil sink pathways under MRV; yield numbers need separate trial reports.
  2. Vineyard California cases are among the best public multi-year agronomic + economic datasets (Oasis PDF).
  3. Composting co-benefits (VOC, curing) are facility metrics—do not equate to field N₂O (GHG Fluxes).
  4. Always check feedstock (forest residue, urban wood, ag waste) against local residue-retention rules (NRCS soil carbon amendment in US ag).
