Production Hub

Map of notes on how biochar is made, what feedstock and process choices control, and how material quality is judged before application or credit issuance. Sits between raw biomass and the science of permanence / agronomy / markets. Report context: 2026-09-16.

Domain purpose

Production is the controllable step that turns biomass into a carbon-rich solid. Peak temperature, residence time, heating rate, reactor type, and feedstock chemistry jointly set:

  • Mass yield of char vs oil/gas
  • Carbon content and aromatic condensation (persistence proxies such as H/C_org, O/C_org)
  • Ash, nutrients, pH, porosity, and contaminant risk

Credit programs and product standards (EBC/IBI, CSI, Puro, Verra, Isometric) all depend on production data and lab characterization—see MRV Stack and Contaminants and Quality.
