Summary

John is the most theological, most spiritual Gospel — written last, it complements the Synoptics rather than repeating them. While Matthew, Mark, and Luke focus on what Jesus did, John focuses on who Jesus IS. The Gospel contains seven “I AM” statements, seven “signs,” and the longest recorded sermons. John wrote with a single purpose: “That ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name” (20:31).
