Biography

Mordecai was a Jew of Benjamin living in Shushan during the reign of Ahasuerus. He raised Esther after her parents died, instructed her to conceal her Jewish identity, and later uncovered a palace assassination plot by Bigthan & Teresh.

His refusal to bow to Haman triggered the crisis of the book, yet his faithfulness and Esther’s courage became the means of deliverance. After Haman’s fall, Mordecai received the signet authority once held by Haman and helped establish Purim as a perpetual feast.
